Route Guide

Cheap Flights from Manchester to Dubai

You can fly nonstop from Manchester to Dubai in about seven hours, and several other airlines connect through the Gulf and Istanbul. Here is how to choose the best option for your budget.

Why fly from Manchester rather than London?

For people in the North West, the Midlands and Yorkshire, Manchester Airport is a far easier start to a long-haul trip than a long drive or train to London. Emirates flies nonstop to Dubai several times a day, and the other big Gulf airlines add connections to the same part of the world.

The saving in time and train fares can be worth more than a small fare difference. Check Heathrow too, since it has more flights, but count the cost of getting there. Our wider guide to cheap flights to Dubai from the UK compares all the main UK airports.

The nonstop option

Emirates operates several daily nonstop flights from Manchester to Dubai, some with the A380, the world's largest passenger plane. The flight takes about seven hours, with a morning, afternoon and evening choice, and it lands at Dubai International (DXB), which is the airline's base.

Nonstops are the most comfortable choice for families and anyone who wants to arrive fresh. Fares vary by season, and Emirates often has sales, particularly outside the winter peak. Our page on Emirates explains the cabins and services.

Connecting alternatives

Etihad flies from Manchester to Abu Dhabi, about 90 minutes by road from Dubai, and Qatar Airways connects through Doha. Turkish Airlines goes via Istanbul, and other airlines connect through European hubs. These can be cheaper, particularly in peak weeks.

The trade-off is time, usually adding two to five hours to the trip. If you have a tight schedule or children, the nonstop may be better value. Our guide to nonstop versus connecting flights helps you decide, and the page on Etihad explains the Abu Dhabi route.

Flying from Manchester Airport

Manchester has three terminals, and Emirates uses Terminal 2. The airport has a train station on site, with direct links from Manchester Piccadilly, and a Metrolink line, and the Skylink walkway connects the terminals.

Parking, meet and greet and park-and-ride options are available, and booking ahead saves a lot. Allow extra time at security during school holidays and weekends. Arrive at least three hours before an international flight in peak periods.

Landing in Dubai

Dubai International is one of the busiest airports in the world, and Emirates flights land at Terminal 3. Immigration is usually quick for UK passport holders, and the metro, taxis and ride-hailing apps are straightforward.

A taxi to central Dubai takes 20 to 30 minutes depending on traffic. The red line of the metro runs from the airport to the city centre and Dubai Marina. If you are staying in a resort or hotel, ask about a transfer.

Time difference and jet lag

Dubai is four hours ahead of the UK in winter and three hours ahead during British Summer Time. A morning flight from Manchester lands in the evening local time, and the time change is manageable for most people.

The shorter flight and small time difference make Dubai one of the easiest long-haul destinations for jet lag. Our guide to long-haul flight comfort and jet lag offers practical tips.

The best months, and when to avoid

October to April is the best time, with warm, dry weather and temperatures in the high twenties. This is also the peak season, with the most expensive flights and hotels, particularly at Christmas, New Year and the February half-term.

May to September is extremely hot, often above 40 degrees, and very humid. Prices fall sharply, and you will find deals on flights and hotels, but outdoor activities are limited and pools, beaches and malls are the main draws. Ramadan changes opening hours and affects daytime dining, though many visitors enjoy the atmosphere.

Why the day you fly matters

Emirates fares from Manchester vary a lot by the day of the week. Midweek departures outside holidays are usually cheaper than Friday and Saturday ones, and returning on a Tuesday or Wednesday can save a good amount compared with a weekend flight.

If you are flying in the winter peak, be ready to pay more, but check the days either side of your dates. A flexible-date search will show you in seconds whether a day earlier or later is worth the change, and it often is.

When to book

For the winter peak, book four to six months ahead. For summer, two to three months is usually enough, and sales appear regularly. Emirates and Etihad often run fares for travel in the shoulder months.

Create a price alert, then check it now and then rather than every hour. Two of our guides go deeper: tracking fare drops and the best time to book flights in 2026.

Visas and entry requirements

British citizens can normally get a free visit visa on arrival in the UAE, valid for 30 days, with the option to extend. Your passport should be valid for at least six months from arrival, and you may be asked for proof of a return ticket and accommodation.

Rules can change, so check the UAE government and UK Foreign Office websites before you travel. Carry medication in its original packaging with a prescription, since some drugs that are common in the UK are controlled in the UAE.

Weddings, work trips and visiting family

A good share of passengers on this route are travelling for work, to see family or to attend weddings, and for them the dates are fixed. In that case, book as early as possible and look at flexible fares, since changes can be costly.

If you have a large amount of luggage, check the allowance on the fare you choose, and compare it with a higher fare that includes extra weight. Emirates is generally generous with its checked baggage allowance, which makes it popular for family trips.

Laws, behaviour and respect for local customs

Dubai is welcoming but conservative. Public displays of affection are discouraged, you should dress modestly outside beaches and pools, and drunken behaviour is an offence. Alcohol is served in licensed hotels and venues, but not in public.

Drugs carry severe penalties, including for small amounts and for some medicines. Do not photograph people without permission, and be careful about posting criticism online. A little awareness of the rules prevents a lot of trouble.

What to do in Dubai

Highlights include the Burj Khalifa, Dubai Mall and fountains, the old Al Fahidi district and creek abra boats, the souks, Palm Jumeirah and a desert safari with dune driving and dinner. Many hotels have pools and beach access.

Book popular attractions ahead, particularly the Burj Khalifa at sunset. Add Abu Dhabi's Sheikh Zayed Mosque and the Louvre Abu Dhabi, a short drive or bus ride away, for a day trip.

Where to stay: Marina, Downtown, Palm or Deira

Downtown Dubai puts you beside the Burj Khalifa and Dubai Mall and suits a first visit. Dubai Marina and JBR offer beaches, restaurants and a walkable waterfront, popular with families and groups. The Palm has large resorts with private beaches and is quieter, and Deira and Bur Dubai are the older, cheaper districts near the creek and souks.

Check how far you will be from a metro station, since taxis can add up and traffic is heavy in the evenings. Winter hotel prices are the highest of the year, so book early for Christmas, New Year and half-term.

Stopover and onward connections

Dubai is a major hub, so Manchester to Dubai can be a first leg to the Maldives, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Australia and beyond. Emirates offers stopover packages that include a discounted hotel night.

A two or three-night stop breaks the journey and costs little extra. Our guide to the stopover strategy explains how to add one, and transit visa rules covers the paperwork.

Brunch, food and eating well

Dubai has one of the most varied food scenes anywhere, from street shawarma and Emirati dishes to world-class restaurants. Friday brunch, a long buffet with drinks, is a local tradition at hotels, and prices range from reasonable to extravagant.

Tap water is safe to drink in most places, but many people prefer bottled. Check whether service charge is already included on the bill, and note that restaurants are very busy on Friday and Saturday evenings.

Package holidays and ATOL

Packages with flights and hotels are popular, and they carry ATOL protection if they include flights. Tour operators such as Jet2holidays and TUI offer Dubai packages from Manchester.

Compare a package with the cost of booking separately, particularly for a week or longer. Our vacation packages service and luxury hotels service can compare options.

Getting around without a car

The Dubai Metro is clean, fast and cheap, with a red line that runs along the main corridor from the airport and a green line through the older districts. A rechargeable Nol card works on the metro, buses, trams and water taxis.

Taxis are metered and reasonably priced, and ride-hailing apps work well. Trams in the Marina and Downtown help with shorter hops. You do not need to hire a car for most trips, and parking is hard in the busiest areas.

Baggage and fares

Emirates' economy fares normally include a checked bag, though the cheapest ones are more restrictive, and Etihad and Qatar have similar rules. Check the allowance and seat fees before you buy.

Our comparison of basic and standard fares explains what changes between fare types, and the guide to carry-on size rules explains the limits for cabin bags.

Heat, health and staying comfortable

In summer, plan outdoor activity for the early morning and evening, drink plenty of water and wear loose clothing. Buildings are air-conditioned to the point of being cold, so carry a light layer.

Check the NHS Fit for Travel website for vaccinations, and take out insurance, since private healthcare is expensive. The GHIC does not cover the UAE.

Christmas and New Year in Dubai

Dubai is one of the most popular places in the world for New Year's Eve, with fireworks at the Burj Khalifa and parties across the city. Hotels, restaurants and flights are at their most expensive from mid-December to early January.

If you want a quieter break in the sun, the first half of December or the second half of January offers much better value. Book flights and hotels as early as you can for the peak days.

Money and costs

The UAE dirham is pegged to the US dollar, and cards are accepted almost everywhere. Use a card with no foreign transaction fees, and withdraw cash from bank ATMs.

Dubai can be expensive, with high hotel prices in winter, but food at local restaurants and public transport are cheap. Alcohol is costly, and taxes and service charges are added to restaurant bills.

Families and honeymoons

Dubai suits families, with theme parks, beaches and water parks, and honeymooners with luxury hotels and private beaches. Winter is the best time for both.

Our family vacations service and honeymoon travel service can help plan the trip around the flight.

Mistakes to avoid

The mistakes we see most are visiting in July and August without realising how hot it is, booking a tight connection on a separate ticket, forgetting about medication rules and underestimating the cost of alcohol and taxis.

Other slips: assuming the GHIC covers you, which it does not, and ignoring behaviour laws. A little preparation makes the trip smoother.
