Cheap Flights to Cyprus from the UK

Cyprus is a four-and-a-half-hour flight from the UK with the longest warm season in the eastern Mediterranean. OAG counted around 348 UK flights there over Christmas 2025.

Why Cyprus works for British travellers

Cyprus has long been a favourite with UK holidaymakers, partly because of historic ties and partly because of its simple appeal: sunshine for most of the year, English widely spoken, driving on the left and a wide range of hotels. OAG counted around 348 scheduled flights from UK airports to Cyprus over the 2025 Christmas fortnight, ahead of Cape Verde and well behind Egypt and Morocco.

The island's strengths are its long season, from April to November for swimming, and its mild winters, with daytime temperatures of around 17 to 19 degrees. It suits couples, families and older travellers, and it has plenty to see away from the beach.

Cyprus as a cheaper alternative to the Greek islands

Many British travellers consider Cyprus and the Greek islands as alternatives. Cyprus has a longer season, simpler flights from regional airports, English widely spoken and generally lower prices than Santorini or Mykonos. It lacks the whitewashed island-hopping scene, but it offers more variety on a single island.

If you want a calm week of sun and a few days of sightseeing without ferries, Cyprus is a good choice. If you want to island-hop, the Greek islands win. Check prices for both for your dates.

Paphos or Larnaca?

Paphos (PFO) in the west is the main resort airport for the Paphos coast, Coral Bay, Limassol's western areas and the Troodos foothills. Larnaca (LCA) in the east is the biggest airport, serving Ayia Napa, Protaras, Larnaca town and Nicosia, and it is also the better choice for Limassol.

The two airports are around 140 km apart. Check where your hotel is before choosing, since a cheap flight into the wrong airport adds a long transfer. Our wider guide to winter sun destinations compares Cyprus with the Canaries.

What a week in Cyprus costs

A week in a three- or four-star hotel in Paphos or Protaras, half board, might cost £550 to £900 per person as a package from a regional airport in May or October, and £1,000 or more in August. Villas and apartments with self-catering can be much cheaper for families.

Add £150 to £250 per person for meals outside the hotel, excursions and a hire car for a couple of days. As elsewhere, the date matters more than the hotel: shifting a week outside school holidays often saves a third.

Flight time and the time difference

A flight from London takes about four hours 30 minutes, and from Manchester or Scotland a little longer. Cyprus is two hours ahead of the UK all year, with both clocks changing on the same dates, so the gap stays constant.

Morning flights land in the afternoon, and evening flights arrive after dark. Many winter flights leave at awkward times, so check the schedule and your transfer before you book.

The airlines and where they fly from

Jet2, easyJet, Ryanair, TUI, British Airways and Wizz Air all fly to Cyprus, from London and many regional airports. Cyprus Airways and other carriers add some routes. Schedules are fuller in summer and thinner in winter.

Low-cost flights are cheap, but add bags and seats. Jet2 and TUI include a hold bag. Compare the total price. Our guide to budget airlines versus legacy carriers explains how fares differ.

Seasons, weather and prices

April to June and September to October are the best months, with warm weather and moderate prices. July and August are very hot, often above 35 degrees, and the busiest and most expensive. Winter is cool and green, with some rain, and cheap, though some resorts shut.

The most expensive weeks are mid-July to the end of August, Easter and the October half-term. The cheapest are January to March and November. Swimming is comfortable from about May, and sea temperatures peak in August and September.

Sea temperature, swimming season and sun

The sea around Cyprus warms to about 22 degrees by late May and peaks at 27 or 28 degrees in August. In October it is still around 25, which is why autumn is such a good time for a swimming holiday. From December to March it drops to 16 to 18 degrees, which is too cool for most people.

The sun is strong from April, so use high-factor sun cream. Winter days can be sunny and warm enough for a walk or a coffee outside, but evenings are cool, so pack layers.

When to book

For July and August, book six to nine months ahead. For spring and autumn, three to five months is usually enough, and winter fares can be found closer in.

Turn on a fare alert and glance at the trend a few times a week. Tracking fare drops and the best time to book flights in 2026 cover the how and the when in more detail.

Entry rules after Brexit

Cyprus is an EU member but not part of the Schengen Area, so the 90 days in 180 rule does not apply. British visitors can stay up to 90 days in any 180-day period under Cyprus's own rules, and your passport should be valid on arrival. The EU's Entry/Exit System and ETIAS are being introduced for Schengen countries, with rules for Cyprus different, so check the official information.

The Foreign Office travel advice also covers the divide between the Republic of Cyprus and the north. Check before you travel, particularly if you plan to cross the Green Line.

Northern Cyprus: what to know

Since 1974, the island has been divided, and the north is run by a government recognised only by Turkey. Visitors can cross the Green Line at several points in Nicosia and elsewhere, usually with a passport check, and day trips to places such as Kyrenia and Famagusta are popular.

Check the UK Foreign Office advice for rules, and the terms of your hire car insurance, which may not cover the north. Spending in the north does not follow the same rules as in the south, so ask your hotel for advice.

Packages, ATOL and flight-only

Jet2holidays, TUI and others sell packages to Cyprus with ATOL protection, often including a hold bag and transfers. They can be good value, particularly for a week or two in a family hotel.

Flight-only suits those staying in a villa or with friends. Compare both for your dates, and check cancellation terms. Our vacation packages service and beach hotels service can help.

Resorts: Paphos, Limassol, Larnaca, Ayia Napa and Protaras

Paphos is quiet and elegant, with a harbour, archaeological sites and family hotels. Limassol is a modern city with a long promenade, restaurants and marinas. Larnaca has a town beach, a salt lake and a laid-back feel.

Ayia Napa is the party resort, with clubs and bars, while Protaras next door is calmer and popular with families. Fig Tree Bay is one of the island's best beaches. Pick the area for the atmosphere you want.

History, culture and the mountains

Cyprus has Roman mosaics in Paphos, a UNESCO World Heritage site, medieval castles, Byzantine churches in the Troodos mountains, and the Tombs of the Kings. The Troodos mountains offer cool air, hiking and wine villages, and snow in winter.

Hire a car to explore, as public transport is limited outside the cities. Driving is on the left, which makes it easy for British visitors. Our car rental service can compare options.

Food and wine

Cypriot food is a mix of Greek and Middle Eastern, with meze meals of many small dishes, halloumi, souvlaki, kleftiko lamb and fresh seafood. A meze for two is a good way to try a lot of dishes, and prices are modest.

Cyprus produces wine, including the sweet Commandaria, one of the world's oldest. Wine villages in the Troodos and Limassol hills offer tastings. Tap water is safe, though many prefer bottled.

Beaches worth knowing about

Nissi Beach in Ayia Napa, Fig Tree Bay in Protaras, Coral Bay near Paphos and Finikoudes in Larnaca are among the best known. Lara Bay and the Akamas peninsula are wilder, and Latchi is a pretty fishing harbour.

Many beaches have sunbeds and umbrellas for a few euros, and lifeguards in season. Turtles nest on some beaches from June to August, so keep to the marked areas and follow the signs.

Baggage and fares

Package flights include a hold bag, while low-cost flights may not. Check the allowance before you buy. If you plan to bring back wine, check the limits for hold luggage.

Our comparison of basic and standard fares explains what changes between fare types, and the guide to carry-on size rules explains cabin limits.

Money and costs

Cyprus uses the euro, and cards are accepted in most places. Use a card without foreign transaction fees. The island is good value outside the main resorts, and meals are cheap in local tavernas.

Tipping of around 10 percent is customary if no service charge is added. Car hire is cheap, and fuel is reasonable. Hotel tax is charged at some properties.

Health, sun and the GHIC

The UK GHIC gives access to state healthcare in Cyprus on the same terms as residents, but does not cover private treatment or repatriation. Travel insurance is sensible. Use high-factor sun cream, drink water and rest in the heat of the day.

Pharmacies are plentiful, and English is widely spoken by medical staff. Keep your GHIC with your passport.

A good first-week plan

Spend most of the week by the pool and beach, then take two or three days out. Visit the Tombs of the Kings and the Roman mosaics in Paphos, drive to the Troodos mountains for a village lunch, and finish with a boat trip along the coast.

A hire car for those days is cheap and gives you flexibility. If you are on a package, check whether your hotel offers excursions, but compare prices with local operators, which are often cheaper.

Families and older travellers

Cyprus suits families with shallow beaches and kids' clubs, and older travellers with its long season, English-speaking service and easy driving. Winter stays of several weeks are popular with retirees.

Check the 90-day rule if you plan a long stay, and consider the cost of insurance. Our family vacations service and senior travel service can help.

Delays, cancellations and your rights

Delays at Larnaca and Paphos can occur in summer. Should your flight be disrupted, UK rules can entitle you to refreshments, a rebooking or a refund, and occasionally compensation. Photograph your boarding pass and receipts, and use the app to sort out a new flight.

If it happens, delay and cancellation rights tells you where you stand.

Mistakes to avoid

Watch out for visiting in the peak of August without air conditioning, choosing the wrong airport for the resort, forgetting that car hire needs a licence and insurance, and assuming the north has the same rules as the south.

Other slips: underestimating the heat, booking a hotel that is a long walk from the beach, and not checking transfer times.

Using Cyprus as a base for a longer stay

Many British retirees and remote workers spend several months in Cyprus in winter, renting an apartment for much less than in the UK. If you plan a long stay, check the 90-day rule, residency and tax rules and the cost of health insurance.

Winter flights are fewer, so book one-way or flexible fares. Monthly rentals in Paphos and Larnaca can be good value outside the summer season, and a hire car by the month is cheaper than by the week.
